Maritime Museum

We had a totally fabulous day with Meg at the Maritime Museum.  We became members because a family ticket was $70 and a years family membership was $150.  We had so much fun that we will be back lots and lots!!

We caught the train to Milson's Point and the ferry to Darling Harbour.  Harrison was anxious about the train, but the good thing was the we just missed a train when we arrived at Turrmaurra so he re-discovered that missing a train is not the end of the world.  Bethany insisted that we take her new lunch box from Uncle Adrian and Aunty Sarah.

The children were VERY focused on touring the submarine first. They enjoyed watching and touching the controls and looking through the periscope at the Westfield sign on Centrepoint Tower.  In each of the mess rooms (??) there were games of "Battle Ship" set up and Harrison promised to teach Bethany how to play.

We then had our picnic lunch and an ice block and posed for a nautical photo.

We had heaps of fun at the "Going Places" exhibition, which was very interactive and there were hardly any other people there.

Harrison built an engine that worked!

Bethany moved the mirror so the light powered the solar plane.

They both enjoyed controlling the airship.

Harrison waited patiently for a turn at the flight simulator, and turned out to be a pretty good pilot!

Bethany was determined to ride the bikes but her legs were too short, so she and Harrison came up with a "handy" alternative.

Next we spent AGES in the "Voyage to the Deep" exhibition.  Lots of things to do inside this "2,000 Leagues Under the Sea" inspired submarine. Their favourite was to pilot the sub.  This required two people; one wheel moved the sub up and down and the other moved it left to right.  You could see where you were going on the screens and had to talk to your co-pilot to move around and find sea life and a hidden under water city.

We had such a great day, and Harrison and Bethany were exceptionally well behaved.  As new members we went to the Members' Lounge and Harrison LOVED getting his complementary cordial and biscuits and relaxing in the lounges and playing with the nautical toys.  Then we headed home, tired but happy.

Next time we go, you can come with us!!
