Climbing church tower @ Rye

Our climbing church tower adventure (price two pound to volunteer at bottom of stairs) was, um, noisy.

We climbed to the bit with the up and down edge under the pointy up thingy (church architecture my strong point)

We were all fine climbing the steep steps and ladders (Jon holding Bethany) until Harrison emerged to find bells and became HYSTERICAL!!!! Bells too big!! People behind us on ladder so could only press on to the top with hysterical child....and midday bell chime about to ring...

The view from the top....pretty but I did not cope well with complete lack of barrier between me and the drop. Harrison not care about the drop just relieved to be away from the bells.

We waited up there until after the midday bell toll (noise of bells apparently not scary at all, just viewing them scary). Jon carried hysterical Harrison down ladders (noise in church must have been conducive to prayer ;)) I stayed holding on to a wiggling Bethany trying not to panic.....no more climbing towers for a while!
